About Simply Bee
It started in 1954
In 1954 It all started with Derick Hugo who had been a passionate hobbyist beekeeper in South Africa since 1954.
Upon his retirement Derick and Marie Hugo returned to Hopefield in 1994 and transformed their beekeeping hobby into a business. Simply Bee is born. It’s the start of something beautiful.
Our mission
The main aim was to create a range free from harmful chemicals, synthetic fragrances and parabens, making it both safe and environmentally friendly. Simply Bee products are 100% natural and handmade. Free from harmful chemicals, synthetic fragrances and parabens.
We are very fortunate to have our beehives in Fynbos rich areas around Hopefield where there is no commercial farming within the immediate vicinity. Therefore, our honey, beeswax and propolis are all 100% organic. Our bees are not used for commercial pollination either, eliminating the negative effects of exposure to chemicals. Our hives are all placed on stands, which also makes them badger-friendly.
Natural biological products
In 2008 the next generation became involved. Pierre and Helena van der Westhuizen continue with the proud family legacy. Due to her having a sensitive skin herself, Helena set out to develop an all-natural range of beeswax products, using only the raw materials from their own hives. Free from harmful chemicals, synthetic fragrances and parabens. 100% natural, safe and environmentally friendly.
Natural ingredients are extremely effective. They stimulate your senses, are better for the environment and beneficial to your overall well-being. Natural ingredients nurture the skin with wholesome nutrients that are familiar to the body’s chemistry, thus working in harmony with the body.

Any processing, including distillation, condensation, extraction, steaming, and hydrolysis are kept to a minimum. My goal is to maximise purity without negative effects on the ingredients – simply put: my goal is to keep natural ingredients natural. This ensures full retention of their beneficial properties.

From 5 to 150 products
Simply Bee started with only 5 products. Now we sell more than 150 products. Our product range now includes: Hand & Body Products, Facial Skin care range, Baby Products, Men’s products, Hair products, Soaps & Candles, Ointments and Balms, Propolis Products, Polishes and Gift Pack combinations.
Simply Bee has more than 350 stockists in South Africa. Our products are sold in many different countries. We also exports to Zimbabwe, Namibia, England, USA and Mauritius.
The sale in The Netherlands is done by Romea Oldenburg since 2018. In december 2020 she started selling our products via her new website.

Ben super blij met de producten van Simply Bee! Ik heb een gevoelige huid en een parfum- en alcoholallergie, dus voor mij is het heel lastig om de juiste huidverzorging te vinden. Maar met de producten en adviezen van Simply Bee heb ik eindelijk een lekker verzorgde huid zonder allergische reactie. Ik gebruik de Daily moisturizer, de Cleansing cream, de Facial Toner, en de Night Cream. De lip-balm is trouwens ook enorm aan te raden!
